I purchased this while I was in college (around 1990) and have lived with a few other people who had grinders, too. Nothing measures up. It's ellipitcal design means the beans rotate better and stir up, whereas the round ones tend to grind on the bottom with chunks on top. This also has a much larger capacity so you can brew up a very strong pot in a 12 cup maker. And I love that it is STILL $20 after 20 years. In my opinion, nothing compares. Mine FINALLY died last week. The extra Procter Silex grinder I have isn't cutting it, so I plan on ordering a Krups again.
