It does one thing, but it does it very well: it boils water faster than a stove or microwave. A roommate owns one and I bought one as a gift for my dad and step-mom, who think it's great. This is an older model made of plastic. More modern ones are made of stainless. Honestly I like the plastic because it's easy to see what's going on inside, and it's cheaper than the newer models.
